Wiiitis: the Dr Bonis blog.

Hi!

I am Dr. Julio Bonis and I have coined the term "wiiitis".

Due to a massive email responses and querying for more information I have recieved in relation with my article of Acute Wiiitis I will use my personal blog as a reference for all people interested in the issue.

I will paste here the FAQ about wiiitis story as many mass media are asking similar things. Please feel free to reproduce the contents of this blog entry.

Where you come from?

My name is Julio Bonis, I live in Madrid, Spain where I work as a Family medicine resident, third year. I went to the medical school in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria University.

To which institution do you belong?

I work in two healthcare centers. Centro de Salud Espronceda (primary care center) in Madrid, and Fundación Jimenez Díaz Hospital.

What about your signature in the original letter in NEJM? Isn't it in Barcelona?

Yes, I was a researcher in the Research Group of Biomedical Informatis from 2002 to 2005. Currently I am doing my PhD thesis about biomedical literature text mining applied to pharmacogenomics. I actively collaborate with the Barcelona's laboratory. As they have supported my research much more than my own hospital I prefered to sign under my Barcelona's laboratory.


Are you a fatty doctor as some people suggest?

Not at all. 172 cms tall and 60 kgs. Slim. I use to practice sports (mainly fitness) in a gym 2-3 days per week.

Your surname (Bonis) sounds funny. Does it have something to do with "bones" or "boner"?

Not at all. Is a classical latin surname. Means "among the good ones".

Could I have an interview with you by telephone?

Of course, but my disponibility is rare. Several clinical duties. You should realize that I am not native english speaker, so the interview could have some difficulties. I speak more or less fluent english, but you should be patient with me.
